Your face is one of the first things you see in the morning as you get up and brush your teeth. Wouldn’t you like it to looks a fabulous as you feel? Since few people in this economy have the luxury to go get profession facials done, I’ve curated some of the best facial home remedies for your skin’s pleasure.

Egg on your face
Those eggs in your fridge can do more than just make you a killer omelet for breakfast. Just one egg represents one of the best facial home remedies, kept secret from the masses no more.
According to Livestrong.com, there are many benefits to be gained by applying egg whites to your face, and these are a few that I particularly enjoy. After washing your face with warm water and then blotting it dry, take the egg white, and apply it directly to you face with a brush. Allow it to sit there until dry, and then rinse the dried mask off with cold water. This should help shrink your pores and aid with reducing oily skin problems.
Now, I hope you didn’t toss that egg yolk. The high amounts of vitamin A in the yolk helps moisturize your skin, while the proteins encourage your skin to make repairs and remain elastic.

Face care tech
Don’t feel like putting egg on your face? Olay understands that. The Olay ProX Advanced Cleansing System with Facial Brush is the answer to expensive facial care with this inexpensive tool. This home remedy tool should be used daily to renew skin that gets worn out with the stress we average people experience on a regular basis. Also, feel free to take it into the shower with you, as it is water-resistant.
Olay’s facial care system is often compared to the pricier Clarisonic cleansing system, and Olay comes out the clear winner in great affordability, gentle facial brush, and the relaxing circular motions that the Clarisonic just does not have.
The Olay cleansing system come with a cleansing cream, a 2-speed brush and 2 AA Duracell batteries to keep your face refreshed, and you ready to face the world.

Mask yourself
A good middle ground between the first two facial home remedies is the Dermal Korea Collagen Essence Full Face Facial Mask Sheet. No need to break out a mixing bowl or tote a tool, this simple remedy has the easy steps of open package, apply and enjoy the soothing facial mask that beauty gurus are raving about.
These thick masks are full of vitamins and collagen, and the combo pack allows you to experiment with which ones are the perfect ones for your particular skincare needs. I recommend you refrigerate it for about 10 minutes before you put on the mask for a completely cool and refreshing experience. After luxuriating in your budget-friendly mask for about 15-20 minutes, peel it off and rub the excess moisturizer into your skin to maximize this facial home remedy.

Battling dry or oily skin?
While we’re dishing out advice on facial skincare remedies, we need to address how to deal with overly-oily or overly-oily skin. A surprising home remedy is lurking in your cupboards, and that’s coconut oil.
This gentle and natural substance can be used as a daily nighttime moisturizer for our dry skinned readers. Gently massage the oil into your skin, and the wash it off with your usual cleanser.
Now, you may be thinking, ‘that’s nice for the dry skin people but how can coconut oil help me and my oily face?’. Well, part of why your skin is oily is like because you’re attempting to remove too much of your skin’s natural oil! This causes your face to over-produce, and leaves you with overly oily skin. Using coconut oil as your home remedy of choice will soothe the over-stripped skin and leave your face glowing.
The American Society for Nutrition has nothing but praise for this facial home remedy because of the coconut oil’s antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. What does that mean for you? In layman’s terms, coconut oil is a natural cleanser that will protect your skin, all while hydrating your dehydrated face and balancing your face’s natural oils. If you don’t want to steal the coconut oil out of your cupboard, we’d recommend Viva Labs The Finest Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. It comes in a variety of sizes and is pretty inexpensive in the bargain.

Raid your houseplant
Your aloe vera plant is hoarding one of the best facial home remedies of all. That spikey little plant is there for you both before and after skin damage has occurred.
In the preemptive stage, aloe vera application can moisturize the skin and help kill the bacteria that causes acne. There’s nothing worse than dry skin and acne combined, especially if you have, say, a wedding where you are part of the wedding party (I may or may not be speaking from painful experience).
Post-skin damage, this home remedy is there to sooth away the pain. Irritated or sunburned face? Apply aloe to it to keep your skin moisturized and the aloe will work its anti-inflammatory magic. Even the Center for Disease Control and Prevention acknowledges that using aloe vera on damaged skin isn’t just an old wives’ tale.
If you kill houseplants regularly and don’t have an aloe vera plant to denude, this gel, Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera 100% Gel, is the store-bought aloe vera for you. With no fragrance or color added, it is as natural as you can get without cutting a leaf off of a plant.

So organically you
A newer addition to my list of best facial home remedies is Certified Organic Antifungal Soap – by Vi-Tae®. I know I know, what does normal-looking soap have to do with facial care? Well this awesome soap is a lovely and organic blend of herbs and oils such as lemongrass oil and tea tree oil, and can be used all over the body. And even more importantly to me, it was the only thing that got rid of the reddish dry patch that stayed stubbornly on my forehead, right between my eyebrows no less!
As tea tree oil is a main ingredient in this lovely bar soap, you should know why you should be excited about it. Tea tree oil is an antifungal, and as little as we want to think about it, sometimes our facial home remedies result in facial fungal infection, like fungal acne. Ugh, even the words make me shudder.
In any case, in a study published by The National Center for Biotechnology Information, it confirmed the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory abilities of tea tree oil, and said it was a promising alternative to regular medicine. However, be careful with tea tree oil. It is fairly toxic, and while it is diluted in the bar I like to use, it still burns if I accidentally get it into my eyes.

The bane named acne
Many of us have been battling acne since we hit puberty, for others, acne came later in life. If you don’t want to go the spa or dermatologist route, we’re got some options for you.
A great clay mask that helps with acne is the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Deep Pore Cleansing mask. This organic mask draws the impurities out of your skin, leaving your face red for about 30 minutes and a bit dry. The redness will go away after a half hour, and you should moisturize after the mask. However, it is great at reaching those deep blackheads and drawing out pore-clogging junk, and will even work with cystic acne.
On the daily cleanser front, the best facial home remedy I’ve found is Thayers Alcohol-free Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera. Chocked full of natural healing ingredients, this natural and soothing facial cleanser is great for daily use to keep acne in check. The rose water soothes the irritated skin, with the witch hazel gently cleansing your pores, while the aloe vera moisturizes you so the cleanser doesn’t dry your skin out with daily use.
Maybe you just get a couple pimples here and there. To battle spot acne, this tip is especially effective for those with sensitive skin. Your green tea is both a delicious drink and can get rid of your acne. So brew up some green tea, then allow it to cool, before either using it as a laid-on compress on the acne-affected areas or you can use your tea as a green tea face wash.

Back to the kitchen
More wonderful facial secrets are sitting in your kitchen’s pantry, and oatmeal is one of them. This breakfast food does double-duty when you make it into a highly effective face mask.
One of the simplest facial home remedies, the Dermatology Review recommends an oatmeal mask especially for sensitive skin. Be sure to wash your skin before you apply the mask, and then (if you aren’t using a specific facial oatmeal mask) just take your oatmeal, mix it with some water, and then apply to your face. Don’t worry if the major clumps of oatmeal don’t stay on your skin. The water you mixed with the oatmeal activated the properties you need, so just do your best as you apply and don’t stress.
Keep it out of your eyes and allow your mask to dry. Rinse the dried mask off and enjoy your yummy-smelling soft skin.
Side note, be sure to use pure oatmeal, so if you want to buy an oatmeal mask instead of using your breakfast, be sure to check the ingredients.

Glowing, luscious skin
Want the secret to having dewy skin without clogging up your face? Vaseline has your covered for more than chapped skin. Beauty magazines have stumbled on some innovative ways to use this inexpensive product and I want you to know about them.
Instead of reaching for your make-up highlighter, apply some Vaseline to where you’d usually use the highlighter. The slightly shiny product when lightly applied will not only give your skin a moisturize and healthy look, your skin will be healthier and moisturized!
If you’re worried about putting the admittedly thick and goopy looking Vaseline on your face because you’re worried about your pores, worry no more! Vaseline is non-comedogenic, which simply means, developed so it doesn’t clog pores as it is absorbed into the skin because it is oil-free. So Vaseline will break down the excess oils on your face without stripping your face of the moisture it needs.

Lastly, the do nots
Before you rush away from your computer in excitement to try all these facial home remedies, please consider a few of these things.
Your skin depends on you for hydration, so while you’re moisturizing daily, remember to drink at least 2 liters of water a day. Your body’s made of 70% water, so take the simple step to strengthen and hydrate your skin and drink plenty of water.
Another thing to consider is how the sun affects your face and the rest of your skin. Sun damage is a real thing, and the Mayo Clinic has some scary proof. The Mayo Clinic recommends broad spectrum sunscreen usage, and with that in mind, I recommend Neutrogena Age Shield Face Lotion Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 110. Protect your face and it will make your facial home remedies that much more effective.
Last, but certainly not least, remember that everyone’s skin is different. Someone’s miracle home facial remedy may be a dud for someone else, or worse, cause an allergic reaction. Be sure to do a patch test (testing a new product/treatment) on a sensitive part of your skin (neck, inner arm) to be sure that you can safely and comfortably use the home remedy of your choice.
And that’s it! I’ve scoured high and low for the best facial home remedies for your skin’s delectation (and my own!), and I hope you’ve found some new things to implement into your skincare routine. Three cheers for a happier, healthier you!
